Buddhist Traditional Wedding in Nepal

Buddhist style wedding is a traditional marriage practice of people in the Himalayan region of Nepal. This is the traditional way of blessing a happy couple by Buddhist monks at the monastery. There is no set of format; the wedding is usually influenced by the custom of the country in which it is taking place.

Buddhist style of wedding does not contain any complex rituals. Wedding is normally influenced by the custom of country in which it is taking place. Most importantly, there is no such day in which Buddhist style of marriage forbidden and should not be done. The Buddhist Monks from selected monastery bless the young couple from any religions and community. There is no biasness in terms of Caste, Religion, Sex and Culture. People from any religion are welcomed to Buddhist style of wedding as long as they respect the traditions of Buddhist faith. During this sacred wedding ceremony, both Bride and Bridegroom are dressed in a traditional Buddhist costumes. Bride puts on Bakhu, Sleeve blouse, special coat, hat, shoes and a scared scarf. Whereas, Bridegroom wears traditional cap and sash around his waist.Both bride and bridegroom has to respect to the Buddhist monks. They should remove their shoes before entering the shrine room.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Preparation for Wedding.

Day 03: Wedding Day.

8:00 AM: After your breakfast at hotel, the make-up artist will assist you at your hotel. They will help you to get ready for the wedding.

9:15 AM: Ready to move towards the venue.

9:30 AM: Reached the venue. The Buddhist wedding ceremony starts.The blessing ceremony takes place in the shrine room of the Buddhist temple.The ceremony lasts about an hour, during the time ordained monk chants from Buddhist sacred texts in the Buddhist language.The style of chanting has been handed down since the time of the Buddha. While that time all guests and wedding couples listen and observe.

10:30 AM: After finishing the wedding ceremony, it's a time for the photo-shoot.

11:00 AM: Lunch.

12:00 AM: Back to hotel.

Day 04: Drive to Nagarkot (2195m/7201ft).

Day 05: Final departure.
