A week in Nepal with a local family is one of our most distinctive and meaningful travel experiences – a programme designed for visitors who want genuine cultural immersion rather than the comfortable distance of tourist observation. The week is spent as a genuine guest of a carefully selected Nepali family in the Kathmandu Valley, sharing their daily life, meals, work rhythms and social activities in an exchange that consistently produces the most lasting impressions of any Nepal holiday.
Our host families are selected for their genuine welcome of guests (not commercial homestay operators but families who participate because they genuinely enjoy the cultural exchange), their interesting daily lives (farming families, artisan families, teacher families and merchant families all participate in our programme), their comfortable but authentic home environment and their ability to communicate in basic English or through our programme interpreter who visits daily. The week's activities are not structured as tourist activities but as participation in the family's actual life: helping with farm or garden work, accompanying family members on daily errands, attending temple ceremonies, cooking and sharing meals, and evening conversation about Nepal, your home country and the world as seen from both perspectives. Heritage sightseeing day trips to Kathmandu's UNESCO monuments can be incorporated into the week without disrupting the family living experience.
