What you don't have is a guide accompanying you every step of the way – which suits experienced travellers who prefer the freedom of independent exploration.

Self-guided travel works best on Nepal's established routes where infrastructure is reliable and navigation is straightforward. The main teahouse trekking trails (Poon Hill, Annapurna Circuit, Langtang Valley, EBC lower sections) are well-marked and have consistent teahouse accommodation without pre-booking in most of the year. The cultural heritage sites of Kathmandu have good signage and most Kathmandu guesthouses provide helpful orientation. For remote trekking routes, restricted areas or wildlife safari programmes, a guide adds too much practical value to omit – but we can still design the non-guide elements as independently as you prefer.
