Buddhist Traditional Wedding in Nepal

A Buddhist traditional wedding ceremony in Nepal is one of the most beautiful and spiritually meaningful ways to mark a marriage – a ceremony conducted by qualified Buddhist lamas in a monastery or sacred natural setting, incorporating traditional Tibetan or Nepali Buddhist ritual elements including the mandala offering, the joining blessing (tyed with auspicious red thread), prayer recitation, incense offering and the exchange of white khatas (blessing scarves) in a ceremony that emphasises the Buddhist qualities of compassion, patience and wisdom as the foundation of the marriage relationship.

We organise Buddhist wedding ceremonies in the Kathmandu Valley in partnership with established monasteries at Boudhanath, Kopan Monastery and Namobuddha, and at sacred outdoor settings including Godavari Botanical Gardens and Shivapuri hillside. The ceremony package includes: senior lama officiant with English interpretation of all ceremony elements, traditional monastery or garden setting preparation, ceremonial items (khatas, incense, offerings, butter lamps), professional ceremony photography assistance, traditional Nepali wedding flowers and a post-ceremony meal at a quality Kathmandu restaurant. The wedding package can be combined with a Nepal honeymoon programme or a multi-day cultural celebration tour for family and friends.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu.

Day 02: Preparation for Wedding.

Day 03: Wedding Day.

8:00 AM: After your breakfast at hotel, the make-up artist will assist you at your hotel. They will help you to get ready for the wedding.

9:15 AM: Ready to move towards the venue.

9:30 AM: Reached the venue. The Buddhist wedding ceremony starts.The blessing ceremony takes place in the shrine room of the Buddhist temple.The ceremony lasts about an hour, during the time ordained monk chants from Buddhist sacred texts in the Buddhist language.The style of chanting has been handed down since the time of the Buddha. While that time all guests and wedding couples listen and observe.

10:30 AM: After finishing the wedding ceremony, it's a time for the photo-shoot.

11:00 AM: Lunch.

12:00 AM: Back to hotel.

Day 04: Drive to Nagarkot (2195m/7201ft).

Day 05: Final departure.
