Nagarkot Day Hiking Trip

The Nagarkot day hike is one of the finest day trips available from Kathmandu – a guided walk from Bhaktapur through the Changunarayan ridge to the Nagarkot viewpoint (2,175m) for the finest panoramic view of the Himalayan chain accessible from Nepal's capital without an overnight stay. The trail passes through Bhaktapur's old city lanes, climbs through pine forest past the UNESCO-listed Changunarayan Temple (4th century AD – the oldest temple in the valley) and arrives at the Nagarkot ridge above the treeline for views from Annapurna in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east.

The full day hike takes 5–6 hours of walking with a vehicle for the drive to Bhaktapur at the start and back from Nagarkot at the end. A shorter version takes the vehicle to Changu Narayan and walks only the 3-hour forest section to Nagarkot. Our day trip package includes: private vehicle Kathmandu–Bhaktapur and Nagarkot–Kathmandu, licensed guide throughout, all heritage site entry fees and a packed lunch. Best season: October–November and February–March for the clearest mountain views.
