The Mountain Village Farm Tour takes visitors into the hill farming communities above the Kathmandu Valley to experience the agricultural practices of Nepal's most characteristic landscape: the terraced hillside farmland that gives Nepal's middle hills their extraordinary visual character. The tour visits farming villages at 1,500–2,000m where traditional Tamang and Newari farming practices – including terrace irrigation, millet and rice cultivation, animal husbandry and the seasonal cycle of festivals tied to agricultural milestones – are still practiced in forms largely unchanged over centuries.
The full-day programme drives to Nagarkot, Dhulikhel or the Shivapuri hillside area and visits 1–2 farming households selected for genuine agricultural character rather than tourism infrastructure. A local community guide from the village provides translation and cultural context. Activities vary with the season – spring planting, summer tending, autumn harvest and winter storage preparation each offer different encounters with the farming calendar. Combines naturally with a visit to the hill station viewpoints for the Himalayan panorama that frames the farming landscape on its northern horizon.
