The Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour is a 12-day motorcycle adventure from Kathmandu to Lo Manthang – Nepal's most dramatic motorbike route through the ancient forbidden kingdom's extraordinary ochre desert landscape. The route follows the Kali Gandaki gorge from Jomsom north through Kagbeni, Chele, Ghami and Tsarang to Lo Manthang's walled medieval capital, covering 120km of gravel road through terrain that resembles the Tibetan plateau more than any other landscape in Nepal.
The complete programme: Kathmandu–Pokhara by highway (Day 1), fly Pokhara–Jomsom (Day 2, 20-minute domestic flight to avoid the highway southern section), begin Upper Mustang gravel road route north (Days 3–6, reaching Lo Manthang), explore Lo Manthang's monasteries, palace and cave dwellings (Days 7–8), return south by different route through Tsarang and Chhoser (Days 9–10), Jomsom–Pokhara by road or flight (Day 11), Pokhara–Kathmandu (Day 12). Quality adventure motorcycles, experienced Mustang guide rider, Restricted Area Permit (USD 500 included), all accommodation and meals. Motorcycle riding experience essential. Best season: May–October (rain shadow region).
