Gokyo Ri (5,357m) offers one of the finest summit views in the entire Himalaya – four of the world's highest mountains (Everest 8,848m, Lhotse 8,516m, Makalu 8,463m and Cho Oyu 8,201m) simultaneously visible from a single viewpoint, with the vast turquoise surface of Gokyo Lake far below and the Ngozumpa Glacier – the largest glacier in the Himalayas – spreading to the west. Many trekkers who have done both Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri rate the view from Gokyo superior.
The Gokyo Valley approach diverges from the main EBC trail at Namche Bazaar and follows the Dudh Koshi river north through quieter terrain. The five Gokyo Lakes are among the finest high-altitude lakes in Nepal, their intense turquoise colouring the result of glacial mineral deposits. Our 15-day programme reaches Gokyo Ri from the third lake in approximately 2 hours of steep but non-technical climbing. See Getaway Nepal's Gokyo Valley Trek for a complete alternative perspective on this route. Includes: guide, porter, all meals, teahouse accommodation, all Khumbu permits, domestic flights Kathmandu–Lukla–Kathmandu. Best season: October–November and April–May.
