Island Peak (Imja Tse, 6,160m) is Nepal's most popular trekking peak expedition and the perfect introduction to Himalayan summit climbing. Named by Eric Shipton's 1952 reconnaissance party because it appeared to rise like an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche, the peak's standard summit route involves a long approach across the Imja Glacier, a technical headwall section (45–60 degrees, fixed ropes provided), and a final ridge walk to the summit with extraordinary views of Lhotse (8,516m), Nuptse (7,864m) and Ama Dablam (6,856m) at eye level.
Our 18-day programme combines the full EBC acclimatisation trek with the Island Peak summit attempt, ensuring proper altitude preparation before the climbing days. Ice axe technique, crampon use and fixed rope ascending are all covered by our NMA-certified climbing guide during the acclimatisation phase. No previous technical climbing experience is required; prior high-altitude trekking experience above 4,500m is strongly recommended. See Getaway Nepal's Island Peak Climbing package for an alternative provider perspective. Includes: NMA-certified guide, porter, all meals and accommodation, climbing equipment (crampons, harness, ice axe, rope), all permits, domestic flights Kathmandu–Lukla. Best season: October–November and April–May.
