Mera Peak (6,476m) is Nepal's highest designated trekking peak and one of its most rewarding summit experiences. The route is non-technical – a long glacier walk to the summit rather than a technical climb – but the altitude demands excellent acclimatisation and strong physical fitness. The summit view on a clear day is one of the finest in the Himalayas: five 8,000m peaks simultaneously visible (Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga and Cho Oyu), stretching across an enormous arc of the Himalayan horizon.
The approach traverses the Hinku Valley from Lukla – a rarely visited corridor of extraordinary beauty and cultural interest. Our 20-day programme builds in proper acclimatisation at Khare (5,045m) and Mera La (5,415m) before the summit attempt from high camp (5,780m). The summit day involves 3–4 hours of sustained glacier walking in crampons. See Getaway Nepal's Mera Peak Climbing for route and cost details. Includes: NMA-certified guide, porter, all meals and accommodation, climbing equipment, Mera Peak permit, all other permits, domestic flight Kathmandu–Lukla. Best season: October–November and April–May.
