Our 3-day Kathmandu Valley hiking short break combines forested hill walking, cultural heritage encounters and Himalayan viewpoints in a programme that gives travellers based in Kathmandu a genuine outdoor Nepal experience without leaving the valley. The trails through Shivapuri National Park, over the Changunarayan ridge and along the Nagarkot rim provide excellent walking on well-maintained paths through varied terrain with consistent mountain views.
Day 1: Shivapuri National Park. Enter the park at Budhanilkantha, hike through subtropical and temperate forest to the Shivapuri summit (2,732m) – the highest accessible point on the valley rim. Birdwatching throughout (300+ species recorded). Return to Kathmandu via the forest trail. Day 2: Bhaktapur to Changu Narayan hike. Morning in Bhaktapur's medieval old city. Early afternoon hike through agricultural terraces and pine forest to Changu Narayan (UNESCO temple, 4th century AD) on the ridge. Day 3: Nagarkot sunrise and ridge walk. Early morning Nagarkot for the Himalayan panorama sunrise. Ridge walk south from Nagarkot through forest with mountain views throughout. Return to Kathmandu by afternoon. Private guide and all transport throughout.

It is about 5 hours of walk. Along the way, enjoy mountain view.

Start trek to Nagarkot.
It is about 6 hours of walk through jungle and villages.
Arrive in Nagarkot, enjoy sunset view from hotel.
Dinner and overnight stay in Nagarkot.

Breakfast in the hotel and start walk to Dhulikhel.
It is about 6 hours of walk.
Arrive in Dhulikhel and drive to Kathmandu. It is about an hour drive.
